For Tailor-made Holidays

There are many reasons why Tenerife attracts more than 6 million tourists every year. Of the seven Canary Islands, this is the largest one with an attractive coastline and beautiful countryside. It also hosts the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is among the largest carnivals in the world. The oldest university in the whole of the Canary Islands, the University of La Laguna, is located on this island. It is also home to Mount Teide, the mountain with the highest point in Spain; which is located in Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here are some of the prominent features you’ll get to enjoy while holidaying on this enchanting Spanish island:

Beaches

During your tenerife holidays, you'll have many attractive beaches worth exploring. There are ones with golden sands and there are a few others with volcanic black sands. Among the largest natural beaches in this part of the world is Playa Tejita. If you're craving for some mouth-watering seafood, head to the Las Teresitas Beach. A 10-minute drive from the capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife would take you to this majestic palm-lined beach. Located nearby is San Andres, which was once a fishing village and is now frequented by tourists and locals for savouring its delicious seafood. Other popular beaches include El Duque, Los Gigantes, and Playa Jardin.

History

While on the island, you can also explore its rich history by visiting some interesting places, such as Garachico and La Laguna. Once the capital of Tenerife, La Laguna is now called the 'university city' owing to the University of La Laguna, which is spread over a vast area. La Laguna also has some fabulous convents and well-preserved mansions that date back to the period between the 16th and 18th centuries. The villages and towns of the island were subject to pirate attacks in the earlier centuries and some excellent castles were built for protection from the pirates. Among them are the El Duque Castle and Castillo de San Joaquin.

Greenery

You'll find Tenerife much greener in its northern parts. The palm trees, wild flowers, and green cover offer a sharp contrast to the volcanic mountains. They'll surely bring out the photographer in you with the presence of all such spectacular views. Although this side of the island is rainier than the southern parts, the sun shines regularly and there are some great places full of colourful flowers and plants to be explored.

Cuisine

Many of the dishes that are popularly eaten across the Canary Islands can be found in Tenerife as well. If you're on the island during its winter season, the best way to stay warm is to have a hot watercress soup or 'Potaje de Berros'. Bars across Tenerife serve 'Carne con Papas', a savoury dish made using potatoes and beef flavoured by a sauce prepared using garlic, onions, tomatoes, carrots, white wine, pepper, and a variety of herbs. You'll also relish 'Vieja', which is another popular dish of the Canaries. It is made using parrot fish paired with wrinkled potatoes and a green salsa prepared with coriander or parsley.
